The Unforseen Rise in Overseas Property Investment
UK property values have been plummeting for more than a year now. People's and businesses' reluctance to commit to long term mortgages due to the global economic crisis has been more than slightly to blame for this.
Also to blame was the frequent rise in the sub-prime mortgage rates from the year 2006 onwards due to inflationary pressure. This left many borrowers saddled with a huge rise in their already high mortgage rates and made defaults all but inevitable. Consequently, lenders have tightened their criteria and made it harder to buy a property in the UK.
Many people, including Brits made a lot of money investing in overseas property and/or property in the their home country during the last property boom (and the one before that). Home values have tended to rise over the long term, and real estate is still one of the most lucrative investment options in the UK and around the world.
The difficulties laid out above, have left Brits, fed up with the abysmal interest they are receiving for their savings, to look to overseas property investment. These people, who do not have sufficient savings to buy UK property outright, are looking for bargains overseas, albeit looking a lot more closely than overseas property investors were last year.
