International Property, the Internet and Human Evolution
During the next 10 years, more and more homes bought PCs and the UK property boom became an overseas property boom, because with the rise of the home computer came the rise of the internet, and internet property marketing. It became easier than ever before to view and buy property overseas.
Developers suddenly had a wealth of online agents at their finger tip to sell large percentages of their developments before they were anywhere near finished. This then led to speculative building of multiple developments at a time. The internet connects everyone and everything, it is as easy for someone from France to buy the property for sale on your street, as it is for you to buy it.
Take Dubai for instance, who thinks there would have been such a boom; so much development of high end property and so many people relocating to such a small desert country if it weren't for the internet?
Or would property prices have risen so much in Cambodia if it weren't for the internet showing its potential to the world?
And finally would there have been so many new developments built on Spain's Costas if it weren't for hundreds of Brits buying off plan property over the internet?
The answer is possibly but highly unlikely. Luckily Cambodia prevented over development, but unsold properties are now a plague in the Costas and Dubai. And similar stories exist in so many places around the world.
Don't get me wrong, I know people have been migrating from Britain to the Costas for decades but they were buying resale properties, there wasn't call for so many new swanky off plan developments. And the internet also increased the number of Britons immigrating in general, to countries throughout the world, mostly Australia and Canada.
In Dubai almost every square inch of ground has been developed, mostly into high end commercial and residential property, I believe the internet made this possible for Dubai.
So, as the internet continues to grow, and as it becomes the primary medium for property sales around the world, it is likely the trend of increasing migration and increasing development will continue, potentially until every town & city becomes a burgeoning metropolis and I ask:
Has the rise of the internet and online property sales brought about the next stage of our migratory and developmental evolution?
