Alanya, Turkey Gets New, Old Airport as Gazipaza Finally Opens

Airport operator TAV, which took over the controversial Gazipaza airport last year have confirmed to Overseas Property Professional, that the first foreign flight, a Hamburg International from Germany, will arrive on 22 May, after reports appeared in local newspapers.

"Other routes are under negotiation but are not yet confirmed," said TAV spokesman Mr Yavuz.

The airport was built in 1999 but arguments over its location and various other issues, which caused multiple launch dates to be postponed, made many spectators wonder if it would ever open. This mood was changed last year, when TAV tok over the airport and brought with them new determination to get the airport open and running.

Now the airport is ready to accept flights, it will make a big impact on the local tourism industry, and as a result on the property market, according to Julian Walker, director of UK based Turkish property agent Spot Blue, he said:

"Alanya is already known as one of the most beautiful locations in Turkey, with many Brits and people from other nationalities making it their home. It is comparatively underdeveloped, which has kept the supply/demand balance in favour of demand. Now that Gazipasa is finally to start operating, and people will no longer have 2 hours to travel from Antalya, demand will increase, and as a result development will be stepped up -- good all round."

Spot Blue are currently marketing property in Turkey for sale from as little as £25,000.
